Pregnant Mass Native, 37, Killed In Apparent Murder-Suicide In Arizona

A 37-year-old pregnant woman originally from Massachusetts was one of the victims of an apparent murder-suicide in Arizona last month, according to authorities.

Sarah Scott, a Melrose native, was found shot the death along with 27-year-old Jacob De Zeeuw and 6-year-old Jacob at Phoenix home on Tuesday, March 21, Phoenix Police report.

Investigators later determined that De Zeeuw fatally shot Sarah and Jacob before turning the gun on himself. Scott was four months pregnant at the time of her death, according to police.

“We are saddened by the recent loss of a previous Melrose High School graduate, Sarah A. (Cullen) Scott of Phoenix, AZ,” the Melrose Alliance Against Violence (MAAV) said on Facebook. “She was a member of the class of 2005 who went on to graduate in 2011 from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Boston with a Doctor of Pharmacy.”

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones affected by these tragic losses,” the organization continued. “Our thoughts continue to be with you during these difficult times.”

"My beautiful, feisty, adventurous, independent niece Sarah had her life taken away from her in the blink of an eye," Scott's cousin Kathy Cullen-Merchant said on Facebook. ''The pain and hurt our family is dealing with is devastating. She had so much life and happiness to look forward to with a baby on the way. We love you Sarah." 

According to her obituary, Scott moved to Arizona in 2016 to continue her work as a Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens. She later transitioned to working at PillPack and later became of lead pharmacist with Amazon Pharmacy. 

“When Sarah wasn’t working, she loved to spend time walking her dog, Ash, and cuddling with her 2 cats, Jack, and Bentley,” her obituary reads. “Sarah loved working on herself, by going to CrossFit and Jiu Jitsu, riding her motorcycle, and traveling. Sarah was so excited to welcome her baby boy into the world in August.”

Scott leaves behind her mother Ruth, her brother Dan, his wife Cheri and nephews Drew and Liam as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends, her obituary reads

In addition to her funeral services, which are scheduled for Saturday, April 15 in Peabody, people are welcome to donate to MAAV online. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing.
